Nobody wants their wedding to be filled with strange transitions between events and awkward silences here and there. This is why many couples hire their own DJ to make sure that the event goes smoothly. However, things might go downhill if you encounter a DJ disaster. If you don’t want to have your wedding ruined, here are a few things that you should take note of before the big day:

Establish a good relationship with your DJ

It is crucial to get to know your DJ before the big day arrives. Even if you hired them through an agency, you need to ask for a personal contact of your DJ to establish a relationship. Not many people realise what a significant role the DJ plays at the wedding. They could ruin your big event by playing inappropriate music or simply by having an unpleasant voice. It is best to make an effort to meet up with your DJ once or twice before the wedding is near. Try to find out more about their personality and taste in music for the wedding. If they do not match your requirements, there will be enough time to make adjustments.

Let the DJ know of your music taste

Whether you want to have hip hop or R&B music at your wedding, you need to let the DJ know beforehand. Try to create a playlist of songs that you want to play at the event and send it to them. This way, you can ask your DJ for suggestions and make sure that they will play the right music genre at the event. Also, you might want to tell them about the songs that you don’t want to hear. Some songs might bring up terrible memories in your head. You don’t want to have an emotional break down at your own wedding. Do not think that this is too much to ask for a wedding DJ. If you want your wedding to turn out perfect, it is best to follow this step. Keep in mind that choosing well-known songs for the dance floor is the safest move. It doesn’t matter if you don’t listen to mainstream music. When it comes to dancing time, put the guests first. They have come to your wedding to celebrate your love, so why not please them a little bit with songs to which they can jam? Consult your DJ about the mainstream music that they recommend for the dance floor.

Assist your DJ

Sure, you are paying the DJ,  but that doesn’t mean you should leave the entire job to them. We get it. You spend your money to let them work for you. However, helping them prepare before the wedding will make them know that you want everything to be perfect. If you are too laid back, your DJ might think that you don’t care about the big day and end up doing a sloppy job. The DJ’s job does not only entail of playing music at the event, but they will also make announcements and control the entertainment for you. This is why you need to make sure that they know the events of the day as well as the order of toasts and any announcements.

Know your DJ’s equipment

The equipment that your DJ will use depends on your wedding style and size. If your wedding involves a huge hall and 300 guests, there will certainly be more equipment than an intimate wedding with 50 guests would require. One thing to remember is that there should be more than two speakers and one audio mixer. Make sure that your DJ has multiple sets of equipment and surround sound for your wedding. Moreover, you need to check for back-up equipment. Technical issues may occur at any moment. It is better to be safe than sorry.
